One of the beauties of contact lenses is that nobody can see them. It’s impossible to tell, particularly from a distance, that somebody is wearing corrective lenses and this has become a god-send, especially for those who often earn their living from their looks such as performers.
Singer Dame Felicity Lott began her career with the English National Opera and struggled for a long time on stage as she didn’t want to be wearing glasses. Now she can see clearly with her contact lenses, performing is less stressful and more enjoyable. Often cast in the role of countesses or princesses becasue of her natural beauty and height, the last thing she wanted to do was either walk into things on stage or be wering glasses. British pop singer, Beverly Knight, is also a fan of contact lenses while on stage.
Technology moves on at an astounding rate. All around the globe research is carried out continually into ways that can make things better, faster, easier. But do we really need it? Do we even want it? Washington University research is throwing up all sorts of ideas that could be connected with the humble contact lens. Yes, the contact lens – but what use could that be other than helping us to see more clearly without the cumbersome prescription glasses?
Contact lenses have often been considered a ‘cosmetic’ thing, for people that didn’t like the way they looked in glasses or found them too inconvenient.
However, the science buffs are not happy with simply sitting back content with their invention. Research into future benefits for contact lens wearers include infusing the lenses with Vitamin E in order to help save the sight of millions of glaucoma sufferers.
